  1. What is BrightSparks?

BrightSparks is a scholarship, higher education and careers portal created for students. BrightSparks is created in collaboration with local JCs, IP schools, Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) along with both Scholarships and Course Providers in Singapore. It is owned and managed by JobsCentral.

  2. What can I use BrightSparks for?

As a student, you can use BrightSparks to do the following:

    • Research and apply for scholarships online using 1 form
    • Research and make course enquiries to Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs)
    • Read career related content to make better career decisions
    • Be kept informed via emailers from Scholarship Providers, IHLs and relevent career partners
  3. What is "My Game Plan"?

"My Game Plan" stores your personal details. You will need to fill in certain mandatory fields inside this section in order to use Brightsparks. In addition, you will need to fill out in more detail if you intend to use the portal for scholarship applications. My Game Plan consists of the following sub-sections

My Profile This section contains personal particulars, NS, school, family and other information about yourself. You will need to fill up this section completely if you intend to apply for scholarship.
Please select your respective level and update the customised form accordingly. You can return to the form to update your grades; the changes will be reflected across all your applications.
My Scholarship Application Form This is where the bulk of the online scholarship form resides. Fill this section up completely if you intend to apply for scholarships online.
My Preferences This is where you let the scholarship providers and universities know about your career preferences. Once the scholarship providers and universities know your preferences, they will be able to send you relevant materials.
My Draft/Past Scholarship Applications This is where you can track the online applications you made using Brightsparks for various scholarships. For applications that are stored as a draft copy, you can still edit them as long as the scholarship is still open for application.
Supporting Documents & Photo Upload relevant supporting documents (eg. Testimonials, letters of commendations etc) and a properly taken photo of yourself. Please note that photos are mandatory for all scholarship applications via Brightsparks so please put in the effort to prepare a good one.
Change Login Information This is where you can change your email and password used to access this site.
  4. What is inside "Higher Education"?

"Higher Education" contains all information related to furthering your studies. There is a course search engine and a system for you to make course enquiries to IHLs online. There is also a variety of informative articles on the various professions and career options in Singapore. If you are interested in an education overseas, you will find a range of resource on this topic in this section.

  5. How do I change my email?

You can change your email under "My Game Plan"==>"Change Login Information".

  6. How do I apply for scholarships?

After you have logged in, you should go to "My Game Plan" and fill up the Profile, Preferences and Scholarship Application Form. Once you are done with this, you can click on "Scholarships" to search for scholarships online. When you click on each scholarship search result, a separate window will pop up, where you can read about the scholarship and apply for it.

  7. When should we apply for scholarships?

The BrightSparks portal is live throughout the year. Some scholarships are open for application throughout the year. For others, there are typically two peak periods for scholarship application when the various scholarship providers open their scholarship for application, namely in the September - November and March period. This will vary between scholarship providers, so we advise that you to check with the provider you are looking at for the respective open dates. This can be found on the BrightSparks portal.

  8. Different Scholarship Providers have different essay questions. How do I answer those?

When you apply for scholarships, if there are additional questions from the particular scholarship provider, the question(s) will appear at the bottom of the form. Simply cut and paste your answer(s) into the form and click submit to complete the application. We strongly advise that you prepare your answers to the essay questions before you fill up the application form. You may experience a system time-out if you take too long to fill up the application form. When this happens, the data filled in may be deleted by the system and you will need to re-fill in the application form. To prevent this, please prepare your essay answers in advance, and just cut-and-paste over the answers when filling the application forms.

  9. Do I have to apply using the scholarship providers form if they are using the BrightSpark's form?

Once you apply via BrightSparks, the completed application form will be forwarded to the Scholarship Provider. There is no need to apply again via the paper forms, email or on their website unless specified by the scholarship provider.

  10. Why am I sometimes routed to other web sites when I click on the 'Apply' Button?

Currently, not all scholarship providers use the BrightSparks form. If you are routed to another web site after clicking on "Apply", please follow the instructions on the redirected site to complete your application. Regardless, this application action will be recorded and your basic profile will still be forwarded to the provider. We are working to get more Scholarship Providers to use the BrightSparks form so that you do not have to fill in so many repetitive forms.

  11. Do I need to fill up my Prelim/Promo grades for scholarship applications?

By default, these fields are not mandatory unless specified by the scholarship providers. It is, however, recommended for you to key in your grades should they work to your advantage.

  12. What types of supporting documents should I submit?

The type of supporting documents, unless specified by the scholarship providers, will be solely at your discretion. You should check the requirements of the scholarship provider when submitting the supporting documents. We encourage you to include documents that will be able to give you an edge over the other applicants.

  13. What do the various statuses mean in my 'Scholarship Status'?

"Draft" means you have not completed the application yet. It is just stored as a draft copy. You will need to edit it and submit it in order to complete the application.

"Sent" means that you have completed the application form. There is nothing else you need to do for this application. Note that, you cannot make any more changes to the application once you have completed it. You can only update information found under the My Profile section of My Gameplan.

  14. How soon should I expect to hear from the Scholarship Providers?

There is no fixed timeline for this. It depends on how fast the organisation reviews all the applications.

  15. I am a foreign student / O-level student etc. What should I do if I have no A-level results to fill up?

No worries. Just fill up the form to the best of your ability. Use the upload feature to upload your transcripts if you find the online forms unsuitable.

  16. Can I apply for scholarships if I do not have the perfect score?

Application for scholarship is a personal choice. We are not in a position to advise you on this. As for minimum grade standards, different providers have different standards, so again it is up to you. Providers have been known to give scholarships to students with passion and a great CCA record but whose grades are not perfect.

  17. What is inside the "Careers Resources" section?

This section contains articles which are tailored for students, parents and teachers. The content covers industries, job profiles, scholarship profiles and of course higher education choices.

  18. I am a diploma student / undergraduate, can I apply for scholarships / courses?

Of course you may. There are quite a number of opportunities that are open to diploma students / university undergraduates. You will need to read the descriptions of each scholarship / course to identify them. When conducting a search, do indicate the respective field under "Who can apply". This will help to filter out the relevant results.

  19. I have a question that is not answered here, help!

If you have any queries which are not answered here, simply email us at BrightSparks@jobscentral.com.sg and we will answer you as soon as possible.
